About the band
“Maybe it was when I was 9 years
old and saw my first Dixieland band down on Bourbon Street. Perhaps it
was the brass street band with those yellow jumpsuits and the umbrellas
at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Or maybe it was just those old scratchy
78s and LPs of my parent's that I used to steal away and listen to as
a kid. Whatever the case, it seems that I have always been entranced by
the collective improvisation (nothing short of organized chaos) that sets
the New Orleans sound apart from the rest of the jazz world.”
- Carl Anderson
Well, with such a strong affinity for music like this,
what choice does a fellow have but to start his own band?
That’s exactly what Carl Anderson did, and he’s continued
to lead various groups ever since. Carl Anderson and His New Orleans Jazz
Band has been together for nearly a decade.
Combine the seven-piece group’s traditional repertoire (you just
might be able to sing along to a song or two) with its showmanship (a
Dixieland jazz band with stage lights and fog machines…who’d
have thought?) and you’ve got a bold-n-brassy, suave-n-sassy ensemble
reminiscent of original New Orleans jazz fare—one with its own distinct
personality.
